BANJO ROOTS AND BRANCHES
A talk/demonstration with Steve Reilly and friends
A talk/demonstration with Steve Reilly, banjo player and banjo maker, who will talk about the history of the banjo which has its roots in West Africa before it traveled to the southern United States with the African slaves. The banjo now has a wide array of styles and is played in a multitude of contexts from concert halls to clubs to front porches. Steve will share his deep knowledge of the banjo and bring along some fellow banjo players to demonstrate the banjo’s wild diversity!
This event will take place at the Roe Jan Library, 9091 NY Route 22, Hillsdale, NY

MONICA BILL BARNES MASTER CLASS
Based on the company’s performance style, which blends nuanced theatricality and explosive movement vocabulary, this master class will focus on understanding how to use your technique to support your personal performance quality. Class begins with an easy to follow, fast-paced warm-up, which brings together an eclectic mix of modern techniques and highlights musicality and bold choices. The second part of class focuses on learning and performing longer phrases that challenge the students to move with clarity, theatrical intention and full-bodied power.
For experienced dancers.
